Welcome to Mrs. Harpe's JMA Music page. I am very excited about the new 2016-2017 school year. Our music program will still include an Elementary Honors Chorus for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. We will be meeting together on Tuesday afternoons from 3:00 - 3:45.
I always look forward to seeing those familiar, dear faces and meeting new ones as well. Our elementary music repertoire seems to follow those same lines. We enjoy our familiar, dear favorites and we are introduced to exciting new tunes at the same time. Check back each month on the above grade level tabs to get an "earful" of our current selections.

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music: make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn - shout for joy before the Lord, the King. Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy. . .

A High Note for Happiness
British researchers recently surveyed 375 people who sang in a choir, sang alone, or played on a sports team. All the activities contributed to greater emotional well-being, but people in choirs reported feeling happier than those who belted out tunes solo. Chorus members also rated their choirs as more meaningful social groups than athletes did their sports teams. The physical synchrony - acting in time with others - of singing could promote feelings of unity.
